Biography

About me and photography

My name is Frans Paarlberg. Living in Bergen, a small town in the northwestern part of The Netherlands, my interest in landscape photography was initially sparked by the natural landscape of my native area; the dunes and the sea, the expressive skies and the fast expanses of polder-land.

However, as the years moved rapidly onwards, I found myself crammed for time: though never ceasing to be enthousiastic about photography, work and a lack of time inhibited me in pursuing it further with the attention and patience it deserves. Now that such time has become available I have taken it upon myself to broaden my horizons; to acquaint myself with digital photography and to move deeper into the European landscape. Though never abandoning the invaluable Dutch landscape, my portfolio now includes photos taken all over Europe. Not only have I matured, so has my style. My equipment, on the other hand, has become increasingly modern and convenient. (Read more in Technical).

However, this does not change anything about what photography – any type – eventually comes down to; vision. One can acquaint oneself with the technical part without much difficulty, but developing a vision and style and holding on to it, that is where the true difficulty of photography lies and where its essence can be found. In this last respect, I still have much to learn. But it is this same learning-process that I find most appealing as it keeps me eager and unceasingly pushes me to get that next photograph just a little bit better than the previous one.
